The Airbus Beluga XL is larger than two blue whales
The Airbus supertransporter was designed to transport the wings of its smaller brother the Airbus A350 XWB to construction sites. It is powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 700 turbofan engines each with a thrust of 72,000lbf (the Boeing 747 has 63,300lbf)
It has a range of 2,200 nautical miles (4,074 km) and a maximum payload of 51 tonnes. The smiling beluga whale design was voted on by Airbus staff and was a clear winner.
